What is the MANE Apprenticeship Program (MANEAP)?

The Mariachi Academy of New England (MANE) Apprenticeship Program is an after-school music academy that is seeking out advanced students to explore and learn more about mariachi education as student instructors starting in grades 10-12.

Student Eligibility

To be eligible for MANEAP, students must:
- be at least 16 years of age;
- have completed 2 years in a performing ensemble in the MANE, or have an equivalent background in music; (i.e. Band, orchestra, choir.)
- be enrolled in the MANE during the duration of the apprenticeship.
Students have the opportunity to become full-time instructors of the Mariachi Academy once they have completed their participation in the MANE or once they turn 18 years of age.

Goals of MANEAP

-To provide students the opportunity to start training as leaders/instructors while still participating in MANE events.
-To enable students to make the student to teacher transition by directly working with beginning, intermediate and beginning ensemble groups.
-To provide the Mariachi Academy the opportunity to train students to become excellent teachers of tomorrow.
-To provide a viable solution to address the problem of expansion and academy growth by ensuring students learn necessary skills and responsibilities to be success as leaders/instructors.

I have invited MANE ensembles to play at events many times! The students have a high level of professionalism and they are entertaining performers. Their director and teacher is a great mentor and musician, and it is clear that the kids love working with him. In addition, the families of the students are highly involved with the many activities that the academy does--it's great to see families and communities come together through heritage music.
